Notes

When you are caring for someone with Alzheimer's it is important to remember to leave notes. A note if you step out for a minute, a note to let them know they ate, a note to tell them where the bathroom is, a note that the toaster oven is NOT a microwave, a note not to open the door, etc. It saves yourself a headache in repeating yourself a million times, or from putting themselves in danger. But, what happens when they ignore your notes!?! Well, that is exactly what Grandmom likes to do every so often. Some mornings I turn off the coffee pot hoping to just save coffee for the next day, well she likes to every so often pour herself a cold cup of coffee. She realizes it's not hot and tries to heat it up in my toaster oven. So, now there is a note saying: "This is not a microwave, do NOT use!" Then, there is the everyday note that states I just ran out for a minute to pick up or drop off Alyssa at school. Usually, it's so quick she hasn't even gotten up from her seat yet. Then, there is the newest one: "Don't open the front door, they dog could get out." (We got a dog a month or so ago, and he is pretty good and probably won't run off. But, he may find an opportunity to chase that squirrel that's been bugging him every afternoon.) Well, let's just say that she never follows the directions on that note...ever. Just a few minutes ago she read it aloud and still opened the door, with the CHILD PROOF knob I might add. The dog was outback and I was right here so it was no big deal...but she didn't even react to it. So, again...my question is, "What now?!" Here is "the note".
